Studying in USA
If you are planning to live, learn and grow in the United States, you already possess a well-known American characteristic—a sense of adventure! As an international student, you will experience many new and exciting things. American culture has been enriched by the values and belief systems of virtually every part of the world. From an international student's perspective, that diversity is very valuable. If you choose to live in a completely different environment, you may be challenged with new situations every day; but if you decide to live in a part of the U.S. that resembles your home country in some ways, you may find comfort in those similarities.
Reputation of US Universities
The US boasts over 150 leading universities in the QS World University Rankings®. It has many competitive private and public institutions of higher education. The majority of the world's top universities listed by different ranking organizations are in the U.S. There are also local community colleges with generally more open admission policies, shorter academic programs, and lower tuition.
In addition, the flexibility of American education is one of the best in the world. Many options are available in one particular field of interest itself. Students have unlimited choices and the freedom to specialize in rare and specific areas.
The education meted out in the United States is often focused on the practical aspects of teaching thereby creating an environment that will enhance the powers of a student's problem-solving skills and thinking abilities. It is also focused on developing an all-rounder, so students are encouraged to participate in many outdoor activities and talents are recognized and nurtured further along with the education.
Popular Programs
While international students engage in a variety of fields, there are three clear favorites: business management, engineering, and Math and computer science accounted for more than half of all international enrollments at U.S. higher education institutions.
Student Enrollement
Year-over-year international enrolment in the US grew by 7% – this is the tenth consecutive year of growth for the US although down slightly from 2014/15’s increase of 10%. The number of foreign students in the US has surpassed the one million mark for the first time ever to reach 1,043,839.
Origin of International Students
China and India continue to drive enrolment growth, and together accounted for more than 80% of the overall increase in student numbers between 2014/15 and 2015/16. The top three sending markets alone – China, India, and Saudi Arabia – represent more than half of all international enrolment in the country.
Cultural assimilation/resemblance/diversity
American universities are present in all fifty states in the US, catering to every geographic and climate preference imaginable, and emphasize the real world application of studies.
No matter where you are from or what your beliefs are, you will find a similar group of people with whom you can share your values, traditions, and customs with at university. While American universities are not completely devoid of prejudices and challenges, they are much more subdued than in other nations that do not possess such a rich cultural tapestry.
Well-funded university student clubs, centered on shared interests, promote an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere open to all and the universities themselves strive to promote an environment of tolerance and understanding among its student body.
